Obituary for Amy Benicio (Buckwalter)

Amy Buckwalter Benicio, 44, died unexpectedly July 29, 2019 at her residence. She was born in Ellsworth, June 4, 1975 the daughter of John T. and Nancy L. (DeLuca) Buckwalter.
Amy graduated from MDI High School, class of 1993. She attended St. Michael’s College in VT and then at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay. She completed her degree at the University of Maine. Amy loved animals, especially horses which sparked when she was a member of 4-H. When she had a couple of her own, she would spend hours grooming them. She was thrilled when she rode them in the parades. Amy also loved camping and would go any chance she could. She was a great cook and always liked to try new things and be creative along the way. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and being with her family. She always made all the different cookies her specialty. Amy loved making plans and spending time with her best friend, Leslie. If they lived closer they would be inseparable. Many people may remember her for working at Mainly Delight’s in Bass Harbor for many years.
Amy is survived by her parent’s and daughter, Maitana Benicio of Bass Harbor; son, Miles Benicio, of Houlton; sister, Allison (Buckwalter) Raye and husband Matt; nephews, Fynn and Talon of Anchorage, AK; brother, John “Adam” Buckwalter of Bass Harbor; special friend and companion, Matt Williiams of Houlton; two very special and best friends, Leslie Butler Gray and Candy Herrick both of Trenton; special aunt, Peggy (Margaret) DeLuca; many friends, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by grandparents, Henry and Mary Buckwalter, Michael and Micky DeLuca; aunt, Elizabeth DeLuca Ingram and uncle, William Ingram.
A memorial mass will be held 10:00 am, August 16, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Manset with Father Joseph Cahill celebrant. A reception will follow. Private interment will be at Brookside Cemetery, Mt. Desert.
Those who desire may make contribution in Amy’s memory for her children’s needs in care of Bar Harbor Banking and Trust, 314 Main Street, Southwest Harbor, 04679 or an animal shelter of one’s choice.
