Obituary for Rita Marancik (Schmitt)

Rita Marancik, 94, passed away on July 6, 2019 after a brief illness. Rita was love. For the last 4 years she lived with the support of the caring staff at Seaport Village in Ellsworth. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ, March 6, 1925 the daughter of Raymond and Florence (O’Brien) Schmitt.
Her love will live on in the recipes she passed down and the sewing, knitting, and crocheting skills that she taught new generations. It will live on in the new and beautiful things she created, and in making the world a better place. Her sharp mind, sense of humor, creative spirit and big heart are free.
She is survived by the love she felt for those around her, son, Jerry and his wife Ann; sister, Louise; her 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and extended family and friends. She is now reunited with those who went before her, husband John; son, Jack; three brothers, Ray, Joe and Frank.
A funeral mass will be said in her honor on July 23, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Church in Ellsworth, ME. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will be on July 24, at 1:00 pm at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita’s name to the Great Pond Mountain Land Trust, P O Box 266, Orland 04472 or charity of your choice.
