Obituary for Sharon Cole McPhail (Cole)

Bar Harbor - Sharon Cole McPhail,76, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with heart disease and cancer. Sharon was born in Bangor, Maine on May 22, 1942 the daughter of Chesley R Cole and Paula L Cole. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1960 and went on to Endicott Junior College in Beverly, Mass.

Sharon had a special way with people that made them all feel comfortable. Everywhere she went and everyone she met liked that gregarious way and loveable smile. She loved life and dedicated it to her family and was a wonderful and passionate wife, mother and grandmother. Sharon made baking an art and knit dozens of special blankets for anyone who wanted one. To all her grand children she was ''NANNY GIRL". No one liked to shop more, and she would spend hours looking for just the right gift. Like her father, Christmas was the most important holiday and she did it like no one else.

She moved over a dozen times following her beloved husband Jim of 55 years around the country. Not always easy, Sharon reveled in the challenges and made it work for her whole family. The final stop, Bar Harbor, Maine where she designed and oversaw the complete renovation of a 135 year old house, which she loved more than any other.

Sharon loved to write poems and did so her whole life. In 2017, she wrote and published her first book titled ELECTROCUTES. The book was inspired by her youngest son Torrie.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, James Curtis McPhail, IV and her sister Amy.

Sharon is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Kiersten Donahue and sons Jay McPhail and wife Sandy and Torrie McPhail and wife Leslie. Also four grand children, two great grand children and four sisters. Sharon will be buried later this summer in a private ceremony at Seal Harbor, Maine.
